Celebrities stepped out in style last week to celebrate the launch of designer Nicky Haslam's latest book, Sheer Opulence.

Actors, artists, designers, models, musicians and socialites rubbed shoulders at London’s swanky Westbury Hotel in Mayfair.

The five-star hotel on Bond Street was packed with a mix of VIPs, including singers Elaine Page and Brian Ferry, models Emma Noble and Pattie Boyd, designers Rifat Ozbek and Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, actor Nickolas Grace, comedian Michael Barrymore and the artist Lucien Freud.

Others included the former chancellor Norman Lamont, environmentalist Tamsin Omond, businessman Vicount Astor and fashion designer Pam Hogg.

The star of the night was Nicky Haslam himself, who was reportedly dressed in clothes from Topman and battered biker boots from R.Soles.

Fine foods including foie gras were on offer, washed down with Devaux champagne brought up from the Westbury's Polo Bar.

An insider said: “Everyone had an incredible night and what with the celebrities' dress and Nicky's designs, it was visually spectacular.”

The luxurious Westbury, situated in the heart of Mayfair, often plays host to a wide range of VIPs.

Former guests include Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, the Duchess of York, President Mikhail Gorbachev, French first lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy, tennis player Martina Navratilova, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, and chart-toppers Girls Aloud.
