Police raised more than £12,000 for the Prince's Trust charity in an It's A Knockout bonanza on Weston-super-Mare's seafront.

Hundreds of spectators flocked to watch officers from across the force area, and teams from other organisations including Marks & Spencer, DHL and North Somerset Council foster carers, who were roped into the fundraising fun.

Wearing flamboyant fancy dress, entrants threw themselves into the Olympic-themed bouts, and after a closely fought contest Bath Police Station's team emerged victorious.

PC Lee Paine, event organiser, said: "We had 12 teams, who all put in an amazing performance. Everyone raised loads of money through sponsorship and bucket shaking on the day, along with contributions from companies selling food, photographs and doing face painting on the day.

"We're really grateful for the tremendous support which helped us reach this fantastic total for such a worthy cause. Thank you all so much."

The extravaganza marked the culmination of many events organised by officers as part of The Prince's Trust Enterprise Scheme, which challenges organisations to raise £10,000 in six months.

Chief Inspector Rhys Hughes, who also took part in the festivities, said: "Everyone had a great time and we are delighted the event was such a success.

“The Prince's Trust is a brilliant cause and we're thrilled that local young people will benefit as a result – it makes all the bruises from the event worthwhile!"
