Click Bristol meets Jody Kamali

With Omid Djalili as a number one fan, and gaining rave reviews from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Jody Kamali is fast becoming a rising star on the comedy scene.

Best known for his YouTube smash, Terry The odd job man, Jody is flying the flag for the working class with his laid back humour. Originally from Bristol (a “BS tenner!” in fact) Jody takes the time to talk to Click about his comedic style.

Largely inspired by Sacha Baron Coen “He’s amazing. Complete balls of steel mind!” and flattered by comparisons, it’s easy to see why Jody gets a kick out of playing characters. “There’s a sense of freedom in it, you can say whatever you want and it’s the character not you.”

Fans of Jody have taken the ‘lovable loser’ Terry to their hearts. So much so that some have become quite devastated to hear it is in fact a character “It’s almost like discovering the tooth fairy isn’t real for some!” Laughs Jody. “I think people enjoy (Terry) because its an identity thing. Just a normal working class bloke, that people can relate to. Being from a working class background, I feel I’m able to portray that quite accurately.”

“He’s just a normal, fairly mundane bloke” says Jody on his character Terry. Presenting this character in a home diary ‘mocumentary’ style, adds to his authenticity. Creating the kind of cringe moment comedy, that catches you off guard and makes you laugh out loud.

Aside from his character work, he also carries off some pretty slick stand up. With hit performances such as his “Bristolian Iranian” tour, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit “The Backpacker” Jody enchants his audience with his subtle and warm witty story telling style.

Through his style of stand up, Jody manages to appeal to a wide selection of cultures and genders, producing a refreshingly diverse fan base. Which he is proud of as he feels sometimes stand up can be “a bit white and middle class.”

With a completely down to earth style, and genuine nature, Jody makes a refreshing change from sharp tongued cynics who can inundate the comedy circuit at times. Discover him now, or become highly frustrated you didn’t do it sooner!
